ICC Austria - Russia
Inter Country Committees were created on the initiative of German and French Rotary Clubs who, after the 1939-1945 war, had launched the idea of uniting clubs to restore the bonds of international friendship and promote peace. Today, ICCs are active far beyond Europe. There are now almost 250 ICCs in Europe, Africa, Asia, North and South America. ICCs enjoy priority support from Rotary International.
The main goals of ICCs are:
- Cooperation on joint projects
- Joint actions and initiatives
- Improving communication
- Promoting mutual understanding
- International contacts in the spirit of Rotary
The work on ICC Austria-Russia started in 2020. The young Austrian Rotary Club “Salzburg International”, which was founded in 2019, approached the established Russian Club “Moscow Humbold” with the idea of an ICC. The cooperation was facilitated by the absence of a language barrier, since both clubs are German-speaking. A significant obstacle was the COVID-19 pandemic, due to the severe restrictive measures imposed by both states.
Despite the impossibility of personal communication and travel between countries, the work continued in full swing. In the spring of 2021, the ICC Austria-Russia was established and began its activities with a competition for young composers and a three-day festival “Sound of Mountains” in Rosa Khutor (Sotchi, Russia). The motto of the cooperation is “Realise your idea” – Supporting young talent.
Composer Competition & Music Festival "Sound of Mountains"
The first chosen cooperation project is the competition for young composers and music festival “Sound of Mountains”, which aims to bring together creative young people from Russia and Austria.
– Promoting composing and popularising the work of talented young composers;
– Introducing audiences to contemporary academic music;
– Strengthening ties and exchanging experience between artistic and cultural organisations in the Russian Federation and Republic of Austria.
ICC Austria-Russia focuses on cultural cooperation between the two countries and on supporting youth through the development of educational, cultural and sports programs. For us, cooperation in the field of youth is one of the most important factors in maintaining and deepening friendly relations between the cultures of our countries.
